In Tennessee the basic drivers license to drive an automobile is the Class D license permit. To get this license you must be at least 16 years old, pass a vision test, written driving test, and a behind the wheel driving test. The Tennessee written permit test covers road signs, traffic laws, safe driving practices, and drug and alcohol questions. The permit test will either be given by computer at a Department of Safety office or by paper in multiple choice format. The written driving test is also available in other languages including Spanish.
